We have, I fear, confused power with greatness!!

Ok it is that time....time to make my NHL predictions. Who will finish first? Who will go all the way and win Lord Stanley's Cup??? In conjuction with IAN, I bring you the NHL predictions!!!

Here are my predictions for the standings for each division then we'll get to the playoffs!!!

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Central Division

Chicago Blackhawks
Detroit Red Wings
Nashville Predators
St. Louis Blues
Columbus Blue Jackets

The central division's biggest surprise will be the Chicago Blackhawks who will actually make the playoffs this year on the back of Khabibulin. That will be a successful season for them. However, they won't make it past the first round of the playoffs. This division is basically full of either young teams (Chicago) or aged and withered teams (ahem, Detroit).

They will not figure prominently into the season or the playoffs. The other teams do not matter...they are basically fillers. They should be an easy two points for the rest of the league!

Pacific Division

Anaheim Mighty Ducks
San Jose Sharks
Dallas Stars
Los Angeles Kings
Phoenix Coyotes

This is another one of those divisions that will not play a large role in the upcoming season. Poor Gretzsky's coaching debut in Phoenix will be a disaster, mostly not his fault. Just look at the team he has to coach....ouch! I actually feel sorry for the bastard. It's going to be a long year....at least we'll have something to laugh at this year! Thanks Gretz!!

Northwest Divison

Calgary Flames
Edmonton Oilers
Vancouver Canucks
Colorado Avalanche
Minnesota Wild

Yeah I probably shocked everyone by putting Calgary ahead of my Oilers, but I think they will finish just ahead of my boys for several reasons. First, the Oilers do not have a credible starting goalie (damn I miss Tommy Salo) and they are still in need of a big scoring power forward. But they are a fast team, and the new rules will let them open it up! The Canucks have not played well in the preseason but they are too damn good to not pull it together. Also, just to let all those Oiler fans out there now, I'm still behind the Oilers. The Flames will tank in the playoffs again (it is in their nature), and this time they will not make it to the finals! Oh yes, they are also going out in the first round! But the Oilers will have a great playoff run! They will surprise everyone!!!

So here are the standings for the Western Conference for the playoffs:

Calgary Flames
Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Chicago Blackhawks
Edmonton Oilers
Detroit Red Wings
San Jose Sharks
Vancouver Canucks
Colorado Avalanche

(yes the Oilers are fourth, only because division winners are placed 1,2,3 no matter the amount of points....idiots!)

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Northeast Divison

Ottawa Senators
Montreal Canadians
Buffalo Sabres
Toronto Maple Leafs
Boston Bruins

Yes the Maple Leafs will NOT make the playoffs this year! And the rest of the country will rejoice! It's going to be a great year! The Senators will finally stop choking and make it all the way by finishing first in the league and then making a big splash in the playoffs!!!!! Na na naaaaa na Leafs, goood bye!!!!

Southeast Division

Tampa Bay Lightning
Carolina Hurricane
Atlanta Thrashers
Florida Panthers
Washington Capitals

Who gives a shit about this division. They all suck!

Atlantic Division

Philadelphia Flyers
New Jersey Devils
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Pittsburg Penquins

Basically, I hate all these teams. Pittsburg, even though they have the new sensation Crosby and old man Lemieux, it will not be a good year for them! Flyers will dominate this division....I wish they wouldn't cause Bobby Clarke is a freakin' nutcase but VERY entertaining!!!

So here are the standings for the Eastern Conference for the playoffs:

Ottawa Senators
Philadelphia Flyers
Tampa Bay Lightning
Montreal Canadians
New Jersey Devils
Buffalo Sabres
Carolina Hurricane
New York Islanders

FINALS: OTTAWA vs VANCOUVER

But this is the year of the Senators. They are going all the way!!!! So my second favorite team will be winning the Stanley Cup. However, the new rules make it possible for my Oilers to have a good run so they could possibly make it to the finals....and if they do, they will lay the smackdown on the Sens (but that might be next season, we need a goalie).

So bring on the mullets, Ron and Don and the beer, it's hockey time!!!

One note to CBC....please settle that strike/lockout with your employees. I WANT HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA with RON AND DON BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost made the Vancouver prediction, but settled on San Jose instead, god knows why... The Sens look awesome and the LEAFS, well if they are banking on the oft-concussed glass head to carry them...oh boy it will be a long season for the Chardonnay sipping, sushi eating crowd in the gold seats at the ACC. I think you should be brought in during the CBC lockout. I'd watch for sure! Anyway, great job on the picks! Hope an all-Canadian final works out.
